Overnight Jaunt to Maine

It has been sort of a tradition for us to visit the Kittery Trading Post and Kittery Outlets at least once a year for the last several years. This area of Maine is nice during all four seasons but if you’re looking for the best beach action, summer is the time to go. However, any reason is a good reason to hit the road, so we packed up Lady T this past Saturday and headed north for an overnight stay.

The Trading Post was super busy! We both scored cool sandals at their annual outdoor “Tent Sale” and then wandered around inside for a while. The best part about the Trading Post is the aroma of the roasted cashews, pecans and almonds that they sell inside at the fudge counter. Unfortunately, they don’t have any vegan fudge but there is no rule against sniffing!

After the Trading Post, we hit a couple of our favorite stores and then drove to the When Pigs Fly Bakery corporate store. The aromas in this place are enticing as well and we ended up walking out MMM Yum! with three different kinds of bread and a giant pretzel, which, by the way, was the most amazing pretzel I have ever had!

With our goodies in tow, we made our way to our final destination, Beach Acres Campground in Wells. This campground doesn’t take reservations for short stays so we were hoping they would have room for us! We kept our fingers crossed as we entered the office and were pleasantly surprised when we were given several choices for our site. That’s not to say that Beach Acres wasn’t busy. We saw right away that this property accommodated mostly permanent trailers and park models with a hand full of pull through sites scattered throughout. Additionally, they have a huge grass covered lot in the front of the property for those who prefer to “rough it” and dry camp.

The site we selected was plenty spacious and clean. After settling in, we rode our bikes down to the beach area, which was less than a mile from the campground, and enjoyed the beautiful day. We also played around with one of our newest toys, the Vivitar DVR 787HD Camcorder. Using the waterproof case that came with it, Jay submerged this little camera right into the ocean! We should have a review and some underwater video up soon.

It was a shame to have to return home the next day, but we have something much bigger planned in the fall. Stay tuned for a big announcement this weekend!
